Well yesterday was my first day back to school with a class full of kids! I have 15 boys and 10 girls. My girls seem to be super sweet and all of my boys are pretty much 100% BOY! I would say about 75% of those boys have ADHD lol! It will take me a little while, but I will whip them into shape.
Overall the kids had a great day. I had a parent tell me that their child came home and said "I cannot wait to tell you about how cool my teacher is and what we did today!" That totally made me feel good.
We started out by doing the "magic playdough" activity that someone posted on their blog. That was so much fun for the kids! I did learn though that you need like 4-5 drops of food coloring :) Then I did all the fun labeling of their workbooks, notebooks, and such. They worked in groups on their back to school packet of games and color sheets. After that, we talked a little about rules, monkey cash, jobs, my library etc. They LOVED the monkey cash. After that we went to lunch and recess. We came back and went into another third grade teacher's classroom and she read them a back to school book. We then took both classes outside and did a little people scavenger hunt. They had a blast with this. Next we went back to my class and I talked about their MONKEY binders. Let me tell you, my third graders LOVED these binders. They even began to name them because I explained to them that these were like a pet. It was super cute. After that we played the M&M game where they take their three favorite M&M's and then I put a key up on the board and they tell the class about themselves: blue = fav. movie, green = fav sport team etc. The last thing that we did was a book mark glyph. Then we packed up and I sent them home for the weekend.
I think that I am really going to love this group once they get into a routine. I am truly blessed to work at such an amazing school with a great faculty "family". I am looking forward to next week with them!
I hope that everyone has a great first day like me!

First Day Back!
So today we had out first teacher in-service day back. We have open house Thursday night and then the first day back for the kiddos is Friday.
So this year our principal decided to charge the parents $15 and we buy all of the students school supplies. So today we went into the cafeteria and there were thousands of notebooks, pencils, crayons, glue, and much more! It was one of the most exciting events that I have had! I do not know what it is about new school supplies that makes me smile! Maybe it is the smell of a new box of crayons or just the first pages of a new notebook... I know I am nuts, but I am exhausted. Here is a picture of my buggy from my school supply adventure:
So here is my count:
100 three subject notebooks
100 boxes of crayons
50 bottles of glue
150 glue sticks
50 boxes of pencils
25 pairs of scissors
12 boxes of Kleenex
18 rolls of paper towels
10 packs of wet wipes
50 plastic folders
50 packs of index cards
50 composition notebooks
